We Choose the Best Way to Prep a New Generation about the Star Wars Saga
So it's time to take it upon ourselves, as the elders of society, to teach our youth the saga that is STAR WARS. The Plains Theater will be hosting the Star Wars Marathon starting on Thursday, January 7th and ending on the 2:00 PM matinee on Friday, January 15, a few mere hours before Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens kicks off a new era and generation of Star War crazies.
But, we ask, what is the best order to show the six movies that make up the perfect story of that galaxy far, far away?
George Lucas has an idea....watch them in number order.....I, II, III, IV, V, VI......yeah okay....not too original and definitely not the best storytelling option. Pretty easy to plan though.
But, we ask, don't we lose the story line by going in sequence....and the answer is a resounding YES, we do. The Plains Theater likes the very studied order that the wife of Matt Zoller Seitz, critic, who thinks the revealing of Darth Vader's secret is too good to be spoiled by going in order. Instead, she any many others suggest the following order which we think makes a lot of sense: Start with Part VI: A New Hope, Part V, Part I, Part II, Part III, and, finally, Part VI.
In this order, you start with A New Hope and continue through Empire, which of course ends with Vader dropping that huge plot bomb on Luke. Then you "flash back" to The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and then Revenge of the Sith to show how Anakin became Darth Vader. Then you finish with Return of the Jedi, where Luke tries to pull his father back from the Dark Side and at least partially redeem him, restoring balance to the Force in the process. We actually watched the films this way, and it really worked.
So...here's the schedule for the Plains Theater Star Wars Marathon --- free to the public ---
Thursday, January 7 at 7:00 PM - Part IV (A New Hope)
